About Paige Hurtubise

Paige grew up in British Columbia, Canada, and now splits her time between Canada and rural France. When she’s not writing, she’s reading, walking, petting her Bernese Mountain Dog, Lilly, or just being a general homebody. The Wild Kingdom is her first novel.

How I Got Into Writing.

“I’ve always been a voracious reader, but after taking a break for a couple years as an adult, I re-discovered my love for reading with the ACOTAR books (sounds familiar, huh?). I’d tried writing, but I’d never taken it seriously before.

After a really bad day working my professional job, I went home, grabbed my laptop, and made my way to my closest Starbucks. I was determined to write a book because there was no way in hell I was going to grind on the corporate hamster wheel for 30+ years. The more I got into it, the more I started researching about writing and learning what separated successful authors from unsuccessful ones. The single biggest piece of advice I clung to was: don’t give up. Even when it sucks. Even when it’s hard. Don’t give up, and eventually you’ll make it, even if it takes ten years and a dozen shelved books.

I don’t pursue a long term author career because I’m convinced I’ll make millions. If I can make just enough money to survive without needing a second job, then I can write for the rest of my life. That’s all this is about: more time to write.”

Life, Now.

“In April 2026 I quit my professional job, and in May 2026 I’m moving to rural France with my partner. Why? Because why the fuck not. I’m looking forward to enjoying a slower, more deliberate way of life where it’s not always about the ‘corporate grind’ so I can spend more time in nature, write more, and spend more time with family.”

Why Independent Publishing?

Ultimately, I didn’t want to tailor my writing to always fit the market, or to make publishers and literary agents happy. I want to keep my rights. I want creative freedom. And the further I’ve progressed with my own business, the more fun it’s become. I love connecting with illustrators to commission art, and design the books look and feel. I like the marketing, the strategy, all of it. It’s all part of building a business and brand that I’m proud of, and long term I hope to help level up and raise the bar for independent publishing in general.
